In-Home Visiting Helps You Stay at Home

Hospice Georgina staff and volunteers are here to provide physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and practical support to individuals facing advanced illness. Following an initial assessment, the Coordinator may offer in-home visits by one of our trained volunteers. A volunteer is available to visit in the client’s home, long-term care centre, retirement community, hospital room, or shelter.

Examples of how they may help include:

Companionship and active listening

Running errands

Assist with writing, scrap booking of life stories, story telling

Reading out loud, playing cards, doing crafts

Providing a variety of non-medical comfort and services

Light meal preparation

Regular telephone check-in

Information & advocacy to navigate systems Palliative Care

Our volunteers are carefully screened and participate in “Palcare” training program. The volunteers consist of both men and women of all ages, from all walks of life.

Additionally, the Coordinators can provide information, referrals, and advocacy to assist individuals living with an advanced illness to stay at home for as long as they may choose.

We can provide a wide range of information regarding resources and services including community-based supports and palliative care referrals.

In-home visiting is available to all residents living in Georgina who are facing an advanced illness. There is no fee for our services and you do not need an OHIP card. Donations welcome.
