Support for Caregivers
Hospice Georgina is aware of the stress and anxiety many people experience while caring for someone dying.
Caregivers, friends, and family members can call us to receive support from the staff and our trained volunteers.
Following an intake/assessment, the Coordinator may offer supports including ongoing telephone contact, a volunteer to provide friendly visits, a volunteer to assist with children/youth in the home, and/or a volunteer to visit with the caregiver to listen.
Our volunteers are carefully screened and consist of both men and women of all ages and walks of life.
Additionally, the Coordinators can provide caregivers with information, referrals, and advocacy. We can provide information regarding resources and services including other community-based supports and palliative care.
We have an extensive collection of book and reference materials on subjects including hospice care, pain and symptom management, complementary therapy, relaxation, spirituality, grief, bereavement, and assisting children in coping with loss. These resources are available to family members, friends and caregivers to borrow as needed.
Caregiver Support is available to all residents living in Georgina who are involved with a person with a long- term illness. There is no fee for our services and we do not need an OHIP card. Donations welcome.
