Grief Recovery Program
A more structured grief support program can be very effective for some people who have experienced a loss. This program is given in a safe, confidential and comfortable environment. Group members assist each other by listening to others with dignity and respect as they share their unique stories.
This program is recognized internationally and is led by a Licensed Grief Recovery Specialist (recognized by the Canadian Counselling Association). Groups are closed to new members after the 2nd meeting. One-on-one Support and Group Sessions are also available.
Each participant is given a Grief Recovery Handbook which is used throughout the session and may be kept for their personal use after the group ends.
Grief Recovery Program Overview
- Participants are made aware of their own uniqueness and the uniqueness of their personal grief. Their emotions are validated. They learn to listen with their heart.
- They learn about how others have made an impact on the way they grieve as they look back on their history of losses.
- They examine their relationship with the emotional loss they are grieving. They learn it is normal and natural to review a relationship and discover some things we wish had ended differently.
- Incomplete relationships are addressed and strategies taught to enable the participant to complete what is unfinished.
